The new contest by Rilegno and Odo Fioravanti: creativity, design, sustainability

Give a different or better shape, change structure or function. This is the challenge that the new Ri-Forma contest designed by I rewood, the environmental consortium for the recovery and recycling of wooden packaging, with the collaboration of the industrial designer I hear Fioravanti.

The competition, with free participation, open to all, but aimed above all at students and professionals of design and architecture, aims to stimulate ideas that involve the use and reuse of wood and enhance its potential to create objects that are sustainable and reproducible.

“For this new edition of the design contest launched by the Rilegno Consortium, we decided to start from the wooden box which, for us, represents a sort of list of ingredients, because it is made up of a series of wooden elements that we would like each participant to use to build a new object. The type has not been specified, but we expect documents that refer to the small or medium-sized objects that can be obtained from the quantity of wood with which a box is made. In addition to the wood of the box, you can also use materials that are easy to find at home such as kitchen string, staples or vinyl glue, or small nails. The aim of the competition is to create objects that anyone can reconstruct in her home. Objects, however, which do not seem to be the result of a domestic DIY experiment, but which have the impact of a design project", explains Odo Fioravanti, art director of the contest.

“With our contest we want to solicit the creativity of students, designers and architects regarding the use and reuse of wood, a material that has always accompanied human life and a material for the future given its natural characteristics, eco-sustainability and recyclability. And once again we turn in particular to young people because we are convinced that the best ideas can come from them to build a truly more sustainable future", stresses Nicola Semeraro, President of Rilegno.

Registration for the contest is open until 10 January 2024, while the winners will be awarded in the spring of next year.
