BIE- Biomass Innovation Expo at Fiera Milano from 17 to 20 March 2020

Woody biomass, the renewable par excellence at the center of the second edition of BIE-Biomass Innovation Expo

Sustainable, renewable and economical, woody biomass for heat production is increasingly strategic for the climate future of our country and the achievement of the new European target set at 32% of thermal and electrical energy from renewable sources by 2030. An important challenge which is therefore more achievable also thanks to this resource available in large quantities and which, thanks to technological innovation, pollutes less than fossil fuels.

Technological innovation will be the key to understanding the second edition of BIE- BIOMASS INNOVATION EXPO, the event dedicated to the thermal biomass supply chain that will take place from 17 to 20 March 2020 at Fiera Milano in conjunction withn MCE – EXPOCOMFORT CONFERENCE EXHIBITION, the world's leading trade fair for civil and industrial systems, air conditioning and renewable energy. On stage at BIE BIOMASS INNOVATION EXPO, the most sophisticated and high-performance technologies in terms of air quality, thermal efficiency, savings and finally also design. Progress in technology has led to the production of increasingly efficient and less polluting devices and systems, latest generation products, solutions and systems, capable of treating emissions from combustion before they are released into the atmosphere, reducing the levels of quantity and toxicity, thanks to combustion regulation, filtration and fume recovery systems. In fact, woody biomass releases some harmful elements, but their quantity and toxicity levels depend on the quality of the wood and the combustion process. Furthermore, the use of certified combustion products, correct installation, cleaning and periodic maintenance guarantee maximum efficiency, low PM10 emissions and high efficiency for biomass boilers, stoves and heat generators. Innovation therefore makes the difference!

Heating from woody biomass, pellets, chips, wood, is an eco-friendly source that brings numerous advantages both economic and environmental in nature. There are many aspects that push us to invest in these solutions both for the residential sector and for the industrial or commercial world. Among the most significant ones are: availability of the resource in nature, especially in the territory of our country: valorization of an otherwise unused resource (e.g. wood processing or pruning waste); programmability based on the needs of the network, unlike other renewables; economic savings compared to diesel or gas; government incentives to support installation; significant reduction in energy bills and reduction of dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Finally, heating through forestry, agricultural and woodworking residues helps to keep forests and land clean, represents an additional source of income to the traditional one from agroforestry activities, helping to create new jobs in the area. The socio-economic repercussions of the diffusion of biomass plants have a positive impact on employment especially in the rural areas of our country. Going into detail, the socio-economic consequences of the diffusion of biomass plants can be placed in three levels of impact: the first, direct given by the design, construction of the plant, which includes maintenance activity throughout its life cycle and the number of directly employed people; the second, indirect involves suppliers and sectors upstream and downstream of the supply chain, from wood chip and pellet producers to transporters and service providers; and finally, the third l'induced which concerns the virtuous circle of the national supply chain which activates new production processes by combining local supply and demand of renewables from woody resources.

BIE – BIOMASS INNOVATION EXPO 2020 it will be an opportunity to discover the most innovative trends in the field of heat generators from woody biomass, develop the topics of greatest interest, those of criticality and of greatest relevance for the entire supply chain and thus offer a moment of meeting and discussion for the entire world of international plant engineering which meets every two years at MCE and, since the last edition also at BIE.
